Within the 3GPP framework, the foundation of 5GDN can be summarized by its four key pillars, known as “CORE” — Cloud-Native, Convergence, Automation, and Edge Services:
 
  1. Cloud-Native: Through microservices and containerization, networks become more agile, enabling “virtual private lines” and on-demand resource allocation.
  2. Convergence: Supports multiple access technologies from 2G to 5G, ensuring seamless integration of voice and messaging services across generations.
  3. Automation: Dynamic slicing and self-service portals empower enterprises to customize their own private networks with one-click deployment and autonomous operation.
  4. Edge Services: By leveraging MEC (Multi-access Edge Computing), 5GDN delivers differentiated “Connectivity+” services, such as “Connectivity + Video Rendering” or “Connectivity + Machine Vision,” tailored for diverse industry needs.
 
From 3GPP Release 15 to Release 17, 5GDN has gradually incorporated network slicing, uRLLC for ultra-low latency, and TSN (Time-Sensitive Networking) mechanisms—laying the groundwork for deterministic communication. As AI and MEC technologies mature, 5GDN will achieve even greater flexibility and intelligent orchestration.
