According to the latest report released by Dell’Oro Group, a leading market research firm, the global private wireless network RAN market revenue in 2021 was slightly lower than initially expected.
Stefan Pongratz, Vice President at Dell’Oro Group, stated: “The weaker revenue is mainly due to the challenges of transforming initial trials into commercial deployments—rather than signs of declining demand. In fact, a series of indicators show that private wireless network activity is increasing, not only in China but also across other regions.”
Other Highlights of the Report Include:
- Considering the reduced baseline in 2021, the forecast for the private wireless network market has been slightly revised downward.
- Despite this adjustment, total revenue from private wireless network RAN—including both macro cells and small cells—is still projected to more than double between 2021 and 2026.
- There has been little change in the technology mix: LTE dominated the private network market in 2021. However, 5G NR is expected to surpass LTE in the latter part of the forecast period, capturing approximately 3%–5% of the combined private and public 5G RAN market share by 2026.
- Risks remain broadly balanced:
- Upside: While enterprise 5G challenges persist, suppliers with strong marketing channels have already launched private 5G services—potentially accelerating market adoption faster than anticipated.
- Downside: Enterprises still require time to fully grasp the value proposition of LTE and private 5G networks, despite growing awareness of 5G capabilities.
